Fundraising Activities

Troop 69 has two major fundraisers each year, a wreath sale before Christmas, and a spring fundraiser to be determined each year. Each scout has a portion of the funds he raised credited to his personal scout account to help offset the cost of monthly campouts and/or summer camp.

This fall, we're also participating in Council's popcorn fundraiser. Last year, boys and families hustled to sell more than $8,500 worth of wreaths! The wreath sales are our primary fundraiser for the year, and helps the scouts build up their scout accounts while the troop receives much needed funds to maintain the troop's activities, equipment, and to help subsidize trips. The popcorn fundraiser helps both the Council and the boys' scout accounts.

popcornPopcorn Sales

Troop 69 is participating in the NWSC sponsored popcorn sale with Trail's End this year. Money from popcorn sales helps support our NWSC, and a portion of each seller's sales goes into each Scout's account which can be used to pay for weekend camping trips, summer camp, Jamboree, and other events.

Popcorn order forms and a set of directions were distributed at the September 15, 2010, troop meeting. Below are some of the instructions from the instruction sheet:

Popcorn order forms (with payment) are due to Mr. or Mrs. Shipton no later than the troop meeting on Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Order forms that are not legible will be returned. Please write neatly! Check your totals before turning in your orders. Please use the collection envelope provided.

Checks should be made payable to Boy Scout Troop 69. DO NOT TURN IN CASH. Any cash collected should be deposited into the parent’s account and the parent then writes a check to Troop 69 for the total.

Popcorn orders must be picked up on Sunday, November 21, 2010, at the Shipton home, 1151 N. Lakeside Drive in Palatine. The scout then delivers the popcorn.

  • Prizes are available from Trail’s End.  See the sales brochure  or www.trails-end.com for more information. Scouts who fill up an entire order form will receive a bow and mallow. Scouts with 2 completely filled sales forms will earn 1 single day pass to CoCo Key Water Resort at the Sheraton Hotel in Arlington Heights. There are also prizes for the top seller in our Signal Hill District (a Great America Season Pass) and top seller in council (family 1 night stay at Sheraton and 4 CoCo Key Water Resort passes and 1 Great America Season pass). See the brochure for all prize levels. Scouts who sell $2500 or more will receive credit for 6% of their sales into a college scholarship account with Trail’s End.

  • Purchasers can  support the millitary by donating a gift of popcorn which will be sent to troops.

  • Each scout can also sell popcorn to out of town relatives and friends. The order is shipped directly to the customer by Trail’s End. For more information, go to www.trails-end.com and click the link for online sales.

  • If you have questions, call Mrs. Shipton at (847) 776-2607.

Wreath Sales

Troop 69 is again selling holiday wreaths and greenery through Mickman Brothers as it has for several years. This is the troop's annual fundraiser to earn money for troop expenses such as equipment, training costs, recognitions, camping, and other expenses. Scouts also have the opportunity to earn money for their scout accounts which can be used to pay for weekend camping trips, summer camp, and other upcoming events. Click here if you need an additional 2010 wreath order form (PDF222KB). Prices are listed on the wreath order form.

There are two types of sales possible with this fundraiser. A full assortment of holiday evergreens—wreaths, garlands, centerpieces, trees, and door sprays—are available.  The Scout takes the order and payment, and delivers the order in person. In addition, five products are available as Holiday Gift products. The customer completes a Holiday Order Gift Form, writes their personal message on the greeting card, and pays for the items along with any other direct sale items he/she orders. Holiday gift items will be delivered to the recipient via UPS in a decorator gift box with the enclosed greeting card.

A price list can be found inside the fundraiser catalog. Prices are also listed on the order form. Classic wreaths are available in five sizes, Victorian and Wintergreen wreaths are available in three sizes.

Wreath sales began September 15, 2010. Scouts should collect payment at the time of the order. Checks should be made payable to Boy Scout Troop 69. Do not turn in cash. Any cash collected should be deposited into the parent's account and the parent then writes a check to Troop 69 for the total.

All order forms with payments are due to Mrs. Shipton no later than the troop meeting on Wednesday, October 27, 2010. However we are not having a regular meeting on 10/27. We are meeting at the movie theater in Barrington to see Ed Kerr's student's video productions. I encourage everyone to hand in their wreath order on 10/20 with the popcorn order. However, I will take them at the movie theater if they want to give them to me there. Check your totals before turning in your orders. Write neatly! Order forms that are incomplete or illegible will be returned to the Scout to correct. A Troop 69 order form has been provided, or you can download additional forms by clicking here: 2010 wreath order form (PDF222KB).

Checks should be made payable to Boy Scout Troop 69. DO NOT TURN IN CASH.

Wreaths will be picked up in Minnesota November 19-20, and will be available for pickup by scouts for delivery to buyers on Sunday, November 21, 2010, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, at the Shipton's home. The Scout then delivers the evergreens to their customers the week of November 22.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Shipton at 847-776-2607 or sshipton@flash.net.
